"Free from the fears I try to hide away from" - Umi

Dear Youth,

"Free from the fears I try to hide away from" - "Butterfly," Umi

Have you been practicing the art of self-sabotage? It’s not that you’re being lazy, but your procrastination comes from a deep-rooted self-doubt.

If you’re constantly in the pursuit of growth and development and yet you don’t study and find every excuse to avoid certain things you might be practicing self-sabotage. It’s not that you’re simply lazy but your procrastination comes from a deep-rooted self-doubt. Needless to say, that’s not only dangerous but also unhealthy.

I have a verse for you. Philippians 4:13 (KJV) says “I can do all through Christ who strengthens me.”

Now, let’s break that down. Imagine the Greek gods and goddesses and how powerful they were supposed to be (forget their problematic actions). Think about the power of the genie in Aladdin or the fairy godmother in Cinderella. There is a supernatural being, called God, who exists and is willing to help you do ANYTHING. Imagine that! There’s no need to doubt yourself because you’re success is in the hands of an omnipotent being.

What would you ask for if you found a genie? God can help you achieve all those things. Now obviously there is a catch, it must be in his will but that’s what makes it better. If we look in the book of Jeramiah, chapter 29 verse 11 says that God declares he has “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you hope and a future.”

Since God is a supernatural being, his imagination is much more expansive than yours or all the 7 billion people on the planet combined. Even though, what you want and ask for might not be part of God’s plan for you, rest assured that whatever God has in store for you is better than you could have ever imagined.

So, what does all this God stuff have to do with self-doubt? Well, here’s the thing, it is hard to believe in yourself, especially when everyone around you has a negative opinion about your hopes and dreams, or just seems more talented than you but the God of the universe has said he has your back. If he has your back, then nothin’ and no-one can stop you from achieving.

Obviously, I can’t just tell you to stop doubting yourself, but I want you to remember those verses every time you doubt yourself and that a supernatural being believes in you. Then I want you to focus on how you’re going to improve in your activity in that moment not when it’s due in the future. Don’t give up on yourself but do yourself justice by excelling the way you know you can.

Sincerely,

Your friend.
